PrintStudents Develop Plan for New KUJH-TV News Web Site

By Staci Wolfe, Multimedia Coordinator

Professor Rick Musser's J694 Online Writing, Editing and Production students had a very busy semester.

Some of their duties included working with multimedia reporting students to manage their online portfolios, introducing them to HTML code and helping them enhance their stories on the Web.

They also worked with both TV Reporting I and TV Reporting II to produce Web stories for in-depth TV packages.

But, the biggest project of the semester was designing the new KUJH-TV News Web site.

The Web site will serve as an educational tool and will reflect what is going on in journalism classes.

Before getting to the fun part of designing a Web site, the students broke into five teams: Information Architecture, Content Development, Development, Visual Design, and Quality Assurance. From there, the students researched and wrote (and re-wrote) a Project Brief, Content Outline, Site Map, Page Schemas, Quality Assurance Plan, and an Online Style Guide. The combination of all these documents became the Project Plan.

Now programmers are turning the plan into a reality.

Stay tuned, we plan to roll out the new site in January 2005.
