“Blog to the Chief: The Impact of Political Blogs on the 2008 Election,” was held at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 13, at the
Dole Institute of Politics. The panel discussion, with five bloggers and moderated by Journalism Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research
David Perlmutter, was the second program in this year’s Presidential Lecture Series.
Two political bloggers stayed a day after the Dole Blogging Panel to meet with students and faculty.
Joan McCarter is a fellow at Daily Kos, writing full time for the world's most popular political blog as "mcjoan." She was one of a dozen bloggers who attended a private meeting with President Bill Clinton in September, 2006. She is currently researching a book on western politics. She has a master's degree in international studies from the University of Washington and worked as a writer, editor, and instructional designer at the UW from 1995-2006.
Patrick Hynes is the President of New Media Strategics. He serves as the blog consultant for Sen. John McCain's Straight Talk America PAC. He is the founder and proprietor of the blog Ankle Biting Pundits. He is the author of the book In Defense of the Religious Right and has been published in the Financial Times, USA Today, the New York Post, the American Spectator, Townhall.com, TCS Daily, the Concord Monitor, and the New Hampshire Union Leader, among other venues.
