Students from the School of Journalism will host an online virtual summit entitled “Telling Stories of Diversity in the Digital Age” on Dec.3 at the University of Kansas.
WATCH THE SUMMIT:
ABOUT:
The summit will begin at 11 a.m. CST/ 12 p.m. EST with an introduction by Associate Professor Simran Sethi, who teaches Diversity in Media.
"Opportunities for storytelling are unprecedented," says Sethi. "We no longer need to rely on legacy media to share information or connection with one another. This evolution is particularly salient for diverse constituents who are marginalized or left out of mainstream discourse."
Sethi will be followed by a series of guest lecturers covering topics focusing on emerging issues in contemporary journalism including: net neutrality, media consolidation, broadband access in rural America, the role of citizen journalism in the Arab Spring and comic journalism.
The summit will be co-presented with the Online News Association (ONA).
The event will be streamed live via Ustream the J-School's website. The summit will be liveblogged on Twitter under the hashtag #digdiv. Twitter participants will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the speakers.
