The News and Information track prepares students for careers in interactive media, which includes reporting, writing and editing. Students find positions with multimedia entities working on newspapers, magazines, radio, television and the Internet. News and Information students gain hands-on experience in communicating information to the public and learn the principles of good news judgment. Students in this track have an opportunity to apply their learning on campus media and enroll in advanced courses in writing, editing, visual communication, or media management.
The Strategic Communication track prepares students to work in media sales and management and marketing communications fields, including advertising and public relations. At the capstone level, students working in small teams apply their learning to create strategic campaigns for real clients. Students in this track learn how to develop advertising, marketing and public relations campagns, sell ideas, develop promotions for clients who have products or services to sell, or work for corporations, governments, profit or non-profit agencies. In addition to class work, students enhance their skills by working on advertising and promotion staffs, or student media, in student organizations, and on internships.
