PrintMay 2008 Journalism Graduation Ceremony Information

The School of Journalism's Graduation Recognition Ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, in the Lied Center. A reception for you and your guests will follow the ceremony on the lawn outside Stauffer-Flint Hall. The School of Journalism is very proud of all its graduates and sets this time aside to recognize each one individually. All graduates will be asked to walk across the stage in caps and gowns to be recognized and receive a special keepsake.

Tickets are required for guests. Please see instructions below for details.

INSTRUCTIONS TO PARTICIPANTS:

1. Because the number of May and August graduates is large, we must limit attendance at the ceremony itself by issuing four guest tickets to each of you. You may obtain your tickets in the dean's office, 200 Stauffer-Flint Hall, the week of May 5-9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you need more than four tickets, you may come back the week of May 12-16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to request extras on a first come, first serve basis. When you come in to pick up your tickets, we will ask you to give us your permanent contact information and a career update.

2. To participate in the ceremony, you must wear your CAP AND GOWN. (Journalism School tassels are scarlet.)

3. Report to the Lied Center by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. Please do not be late. Come to the door to the far left of the main entrance of Lied Center. School staff and faculty marshals will direct you from there.

4. Bring your name card that you will give to the announcer (it is NOT enclosed in this e-mail.) You will get the name card when you obtain your guest tickets between May 5-9. Complete all the information before you come to Lied Center.

5. The faculty and staff will line you up for the processional. Dean Brill will begin the procession promptly at 8:30 a.m. You will proceed into Lied Center. The faculty and master's degree graduates will be seated on the stage. Bachelor's degree graduates will be seated in the center front section on the main floor. Just follow your leader. All will remain standing until the procession is over, and then be seated all at once.

6. During the recognition part of the program, you will hand your name card to the announcer on the stage; your name will be read as you cross the stage to receive your journalism keepsake and the congratulations of the track heads and Dean Brill. NOTE: IF YOU FEEL THAT YOUR NAME MAY BE MISPRONOUNCED, PLEASE MAKE PHONETIC PRONUNCIATION MARKS ON THE NAME CARD TO HELP THE ANNOUNCER.

7. At the end of the program, there will be a faculty recessional, followed by a student recessional. (Just follow the leader.)

8. Enjoy the reception on the lawn outside Stauffer-Flint Hall after the ceremony. If you have additional guests who could not be seated in the auditorium, they are welcome to join you for the reception.

9. In case of inclement weather, the reception will be held inside Stauffer-Flint Hall.

CONGRATULATIONS! WE WILL SEE YOU THERE!
