The Bridging the Gap: A Military Experience for Journalists intensive week-long workshop is being held Sept. 26-Oct. 1, 2010, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. and on the KU campus.
The workshop is hosted by the J-School and the United States Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, and sponsored by a grant from the McCormick Foundation.
J-School professors Tom Volek and Barbara Barnett organized the event. Volek accompanied the 10 participating journalists, who were from around the country, at the workshop.
Some of the activities the journalists will participate in include:
- Military 101 overview
- CAC, CGSC and USDB overview
- CGSC student panel and interviews
- Garrison panel
- Embed in staff groups
- Fort Leonard Wood visit
- KU faculty and student panel
- VTC from Afghanistan with BG Gary Patton
- Discussion with LTG Robert Caslen
