"I spend a majority of my time meeting with students. That's what I love." -- Patty Noland

Patty Noland, career development coordinator, came to the J-School after a 15-year stint in the industry working in radio and television news, public relations, advertising, video production and media training. After working for such clients as Hallmark in Kansas City, the Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C. and The Maryland Lottery in Baltimore, she was ready to get back to KU.

"I developed my love for KU as a graduate student here. I was eager to be able to come back," Noland said. She earned her Master of Science in radio, television and film from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Noland runs the career center, teaches classes, meets with students and manages recruiters. She enjoys interacting with students.

"I like seeing the growth that students achieve, especially when they are excited about beginning their search for first jobs and internships," she said.

Through her experience in career guidance at KU since 1998, Noland often reminds students that they want to find fulfillment in their careers.

"They will want a profession that will allow them to love the work that they do," Noland said.

She pointed out that the advantage of a KU journalism degree is that students become skilled in many different areas--researching, writing, reporting, editing and strategic planning. They need to find a job that fits their interests and allows them to showcase their talent and develop their potential.

Before completing her master's degree at KU, Noland earned her Bachelor of Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
