“I get to improve
the University that I love so much, and meet such wonderful
people along the way.” -- Corrie Moore
As
the development director for the School of Journalism,
Corrie Moore spends most of her time traveling across
the country to meet with Journalism alumni and asking
them to support their school.
“Most
alumni agree they received an excellent education
from the J-School. They feel their success
is attributed to that education, and usually want
to give back in some way,” said Moore.
After graduating from the J-School in 1998, Moore
decided to move to New York City to experience a different
kind of life. “New York is pretty much
the polar opposite of Kansas, I was 22 years old, so
I went for the extreme culture shock.”
Moore
worked in the editorial department for a small Internet
company before she began fundraising for a hospital
in New York City. “I was looking for a
career change, and thought I would get a lot more satisfaction
out of working in the non-profit industry.”
Six
years later and longing for the heart of the Midwest,
Moore headed back home to Kansas with three years of
fundraising experience under her belt and ready to
give back to her alma mater. KU Endowment Association
seemed liked the logical next step. “I
love fundraising, and I love KU. I get to improve
the University that I love so much, and meet such wonderful
people along the way.”
Moore thinks fondly of
her former days as a J-School student, and she couldn’t
be happier roaming the halls of Stauffer-Flint once
more. She smiles
when she passes her former professors in the hall.
“I
think the best thing that sets the J-School a part
from other schools is the connections students establish
with their professors," said Moore. "There are
many alums who still keep in contact with former professors, and I think that’s
a wonderful testament to the J-School.”
