Cheryl Klug has an interesting job that few people know
about. Klug’s office is in the School of Journalism,
but she works as the secretary for the Accrediting Council
on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC).
ACEJMC
accredits journalism schools around the country.
In fact, it is the only accrediting agency in the
United States for journalism schools. Klug said there
were approximately 107 accredited schools.
“I
have an interesting job,” Klug said. “You
never know what is going to happen.”
Before
Klug became the ACEJMC secretary, she worked in the
Dean’s office until the mid-1970s. Klug left
the University for 10 years, living in Colorado and
Wyoming, and had two sons. She returned to work with
Prof. Susanne Shaw, the ACEJMC executive director.
Klug
has seen many changes at the University and the J-School.
She said the number of students and faculty has risen
dramatically and the atmosphere has changed completely.
“Stauffer-Flint
has changed the most,” she said. “There
was no elevator when I left.”
She
said the Kansan newsroom used to be at the
opposite end of the building from its current location.
Klug
enjoys music and travel. Her favorite types of music
are blues and country. Klug also has traveled to
some interesting and beautiful places.
“I
have been to New Zealand, Switzerland, Peru and Chile,” she
said. “I go to Colorado as often as I can.
I just like to travel.” |
