“My
whole background is in education, and I knew
that this is where I wanted to be.” Carlena

Students
who walk into the School’s Radio/TV office
in the Dole Center know they will be greeted with
a smile. Carlena Haney, the office manager, loves
her job and loves working with students. She likes
to make the students feel welcome when they walk
in.
Haney
does a variety of work. She is in charge of making
sure the Dole office runs smoothly. She helps the
staff with their work, and she also gets a chance
to edit. With a background in English and Spanish,
Haney edits in both languages.
Along
with her daily work, Haney likes to get to know the
students who come to Dole. She gets to know some
students so well that once a student gave her a Mother’s
Day card. The students appreciate the work that Haney
does as much as she appreciates the students.
“I
try to make this place user-friendly,” Haney
said. “The students that are down here a lot,
I get to know.”
After
obtaining her master’s degree in English, Haney
knew that she wanted to be involved in education.
She loves the learning environment and the relationships
between the students and faculty.
“My
whole background is in education, and I knew that
this is where I wanted to be,” Haney said.
As
much as Haney loves being at home with her family
and pets, when asked where she would be if she could
be anywhere in the world, her answer was simple: “I
would be right here. It is an upper to come to work.”
