J-School Faculty Honors & Awards (2004-05 Academic Year)

Susanne Shaw received the Outstanding Educator Award for 2004 from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Newspaper Division in August 2004.

Charles Marsh was one of eight finalists for the HOPE Award given by the KU senior class in November. Kerry Benson and Malcolm Gibson were nominees.

Bob Basow received the first Center for East Asian Studies Faculty Service Award in fall 2004.

Malcolm Gibson was an honorary initiate of the Order of Omega, honorary society for members of the student Greek community. He was initiated in February and recognized in May at the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Awards night.

OTHER RECOGNITION

Dean Ann Brill was selected as one of 15 fellows in the inaugural class of the Journalism and Mass Communication Leadership Institute administered by the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication. The new program is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Barbara Barnett was chosen to participate in the American Press Institute Educators Workshop, held in June 2005.

David Guth's accreditation by the Public Relations Society of America was extended for three more years.

Kristen Swain and Douglas Ward were selected to present papers and participate in the fall 2005 Faculty Colloquium of the Hall Center for the Humanities.

Kristen Swain and Max Utsler were selected to participate in the Center for Teaching Excellence Best Practices Institute in fall 2005.

Tim Bengtson was recognized at the Kansas-Nebraska women's basketball game in February for teaching excellence and the work done by his students on a Strategic Campaign to promote the team and sport.
