HONORS:
Dick Nelson received the Kansas City
Press Club Silver Award for outstanding service on its board
of directors.
Tom Volek was one of seven finalists
for the HOPE Award, given by the KU senior class. Tim Bengtson,
Denise Linville and Max Utsler were among 20 semi-finalists.
Peggy Kuhr was one of seven finalists
for the Del Shankel Teaching Excellence Award, selected
by a committee of KU student athletes.
Kerry Benson and Malcolm Gibson were
honored at the Center for Teaching Excellence Celebration
of Teaching reception. They were chosen by journalism students.
The School received a Black Faculty
and Staff Council Achievement Award in recognition of its
support and commitment to students of color.
OTHER RECOGNITION:
John Hudnall is president of the Scholastic
Journalism Division of the Association for Education in
Journalism and Mass Communication.
Ann Brill is vice chair of the Professional
Freedom and Responsibility Committee of AEJMC and will become
its chair in August 2004.
María Len-Ríos is on
the editorial board of the Journal of Web Site Promotion.
The first issue came out in May 2004.
Media coverage of recent research findings
by Len-Ríos regarding the digital divide and media
usage in the Kansas City metro area appeared in Associated
Press news in November.
Bob Basow was named Del Brinkman Professor
of Journalism for 2003-2004.
Rick Musser was selected to participate
in a Seminar on "Teaching About Trauma" at the
University of Southern California.
