Nov. 17-18: Joel Zeff, 1990 J-School graduate and national speaker, humorist and author, is returning to campus to talk to students Nov. 17 and 18. In addition to visiting several classes, he's hosting an informal presentation in the Journalism Resource Center on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m., titled “An Afternoon of Improvisation Comedy, Fun and a Few Moments of Discussion about Journalism, Careers, and the Job Search.” PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENTS TO ATTEND! We also will have a faculty lunch with Zeff on Nov. 17 at noon in Room 303. If you would like to attend, RSVP to Jennifer Griner by Nov. 13.

Dec. 6: Julie Jacobson, Associated Press photographer and 1992 J-School graduate, will speak at the annual Missouri-Kansas Associated Press Publishers and Editors meeting Dec. 6, at 6 p.m., in Kansas City at the Intercontinental Hotel on the Country Club Plaza. Jacobson is now based at AP headquarters in New York City and recently returned from a three-month stint in Afghanistan where she was embedded with the Army in Kandahar and with the Marines in Helmland Province. Her work in Afghanistan was featured in the AP's multimedia package titled “Death of a Marine,” about Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Bernard, 21, who was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade during a Taliban ambush. He later died of his injuries. Joining Jacobson will be AP's director of photography Santiago Lyon.
