GTA, GGA & GRA DEFINITIONS
& REQUIREMENTS:
-According to the memorandum from the Provost to Deans, Directors
and Chairpersons dated December 12, 2002, the terms of eligibility
for GTAs became effective spring 2003 semester.
-The requirements are outlined in the Student Employment
Handbook: (http://www.ku.edu/~kuh/students/SEPHandbook)
-The GTA Memorandum of Agreement can be found on the Provost’s
Web site: (http://www.ku.edu/~provost)
Definitions:
-Currently the J-School offers 5 GTA positions and 2 GRA positions
(under Peggy Kuhr’s grant). The dean created additional
positions for titled graduate general assistants (GGAs). GTAs,
GRAs, and GGAs have different benefits and different expectations.
-Benefits for GTAs include a stipend and tuition waivers;
GRAs are paid a similar stipend, depending on the grant. GRA
tuition is NOT paid, but GRAs qualify for in-state tuition.
Both are .5 appointments and qualify for participation in
health care benefits at KU. GGA appointments are hourly appointments,
generally 10 hours per week and provide about $1,600 a semester.
GGAs receive no tuition waivers or other benefits.
